This site is a gallery of my finished builds, in-progress projects, tips, reviews, and reference articles. I have expanded my interests into armor modeling but the main focus of this site is still SF3D/Maschinen Krieger.

SF3D was a Sci Fi plastic model series which ran during the mid 1980s. The series was created by artist Kow Yokoyama with Kunitaka Imai and Hiroshi Ichimura. SF3D was introduced in the Hobby Japan Magazine as a special monthly installment of scratch built models. Nitto, a small Japanese company picked up the rights to make plastic kits of Kow's designs. The models produced were very high quality with crisp molding, fine details and they included copper rod, brass tube, spring coils, and photo-etched parts. They were one of the first multimedia kits produced. The series ended after a few years. In 1998, the series was reintroduced by Nitto and Kow under the new name Maschinen Krieger Zbv 3000.

In November 1944, Soviet Ministry of Defense issued technical requirements for arming captured German tanks with domestic Soviet guns. The Pz IV would receive the 76.2 mm, the Panther would mount the 85mm gun, the Tiger 1 would be fitted with a 100mm and potentially the King Tiger would get a 122mm main gun. Research was carried out but by spring of 1945, the project was abandoned as it was obvious the war was winding down and domestic tank production was sufficient.

The Elefanten is a large four legged walker used by the SDR. The original HJ issue does not go into any detail on the purpose of the Elefanten. The story portion describes a first hand account of monitoring the Mercenary Recon Scout vehicle. The rest of the article describes the build process for the original. The long forward "trunk" is a heavy laser. I've always loved the Elefanten. It's such a unique looking walker with the inverted rear legs.
