This is a build of the Takom Panzer 1 Ausf b white box release. After manhandling the massive 1/20 LunaDiver, I wanted to work on something smaller and more relaxing. This kit is small but not sure on the relaxing part.
Maybe I wasn’t in the zone or out of practice, but I spent more time and effort into this build than I wanted to. The PE rings for the road wheels left small gaps all around that needed to be filled in and cleaned up. It took several rounds to get it where I wanted. The link and length track run was too tight for the fixed idler wheel position so I had to cut the wheel post off and glue it where the tracks wanted to rest.
I also struggled with cleanup of the pioneer tools as the plastic got brittle on these tiny parts. I decided to replace the solid tool clasps with 3d printed ones. I accidentally threw away a small PE plate, I lost a front tow hook, broke a pry bar, and did such a bad job of trimming one of the fender lights it was better to leave it off.
The model was painted with Tamiya acrylics in a heavily mottled scheme. Weathering was mostly oil paints with a small amount of dry pigments used to finish it off.
In progress images and description.
Model has been painted and decals applied to represent a Panzer 1 from Panzer Regiment 31, 5th Panzer Division, in Pszczyna, Poland, September 1939. Paint colors are custom mixes of Tamiya acrylics and decals are from the kit. Some touch ups are needed.
