Salvaging Old Forum threads

Hi,

I have salvaged some interesting threads from the old forum. Like Pauls Oskar, the Chaika build etc.
These will be uploaded when time permits.

If you have a thread from the old forum you would like to salvage, please PM the title of the thread to me.
(or some key words I can search with). Also add your nickname from the old site.
I will do what I can to scrape it and send you the content.

were you able to find the Links. The text may be there, but willl we need to recreate the *url=* stuff?

Can you find the stuff for "Your first time alone with MaK."
Visit Krueger's Krieger
I'd rather see you build one than know you pre-ordered two.

yes and yes.
the pages appear as they did on the forum - just no style sheet.

Too bad we can't burn the old forum onto a disc and distibute for a fee to old/new forum members.. :(  There was a lot of good misc tid-bits here and there.

not so simple. everything is stuck inside a MySql database which inturn is spread across a bunch of tables. so you'd need to install MySql then either write your own queries, or install the forum software on your PC followed by a local internet server that supports PHP.

or, you could wait for me to import the database. i've loaded it up on my PC and am in the process of porting it. SMF provides a conversion tool, but you have to use it when the forum is created. some further digging might find an anytime-conversion tool.

in a few weeks I'll ask BK to create an archive section and i'll see if I can upload the old threads there.

Thats fantastic news, Futch.  I didn't really think it was as simple as opening it with a text editor, anyway.  ;)

Hi Futch,

What is the chance of retriveing the images uploaded to the forum gallery?

Cool,
Dai.

Harsh criticism welcome.

not much chance. the user gallery was a separate database. i don't have that.
images are probably sitting on a harddrive, but without the database it's impossible to re-construct the albums/folders etc.

Hi Futch,

Oh bummer, nothing is easy when things go bad...

Thanks,
Dai.
Harsh criticism welcome.

I was hoping you could save Dainaka's sandstalker build (it was Dainaka right?) ... he was doing some awesome scratchbuilds based on the Sdh.222 Sandstalker ... Cheers ... Dan (BIG THANKS IN ADVANCE YOU CRYBABY  ;) )

No can do. All of the links in Dai's buildup, pointed to the user gallery which no longer exists.
If the links were off-site, no problem.
